I grew up picking eggs from two chicken houses that held 250 chickens and one rooster each. We never washed the eggs either and they stayed fine. I wish for you many years of happy memories of all the stories you have told and shared.

Today's essay felt like you, too, were racing around the yard, going from subject to subject, but, in the end, fulfilling the objective of the essay: to entertain and inform. I loved it.

Having had 20 chickens at one time decades ago (altho never had a rooster), your delightful piece reminded me of the joys and trials of chickens. Getting pecked trying to grab a hen, chasing chickens around they yard when they dug (yes they did!) under the fence and escaped, enjoying those eggs every morning and in cakes. Worse tho - cleaning out the henhouse - ugh.
