Thank you very much. Now I have a monkey hanging out in my brain eating mangos and telling me to "Loosen up old lady, have a margarita and get some sun"... oh and at the risk of cultural appropriation he has a Latino accent. This is transformative because he is also wearing a Were Is Waldo sweater. The rest of November is most definitely going to be awesome! This monkey is making me smile, now where's the tequila.

The closest I’ve been to Mehico is to watch “the Milagro Beanfield War” which portrays Mexicans pretty much as described here.

I have just read my first essay of yours Danny, very clever writing and you are so observant. Thank you, I enjoyed it. Found you by chance recently and I've just finished your 7 day drawing challenge. I've loved the challenge and will continue. I'm delighted to have found you. Funny how some things we come across just click or resonate 😊

My favourite story about Mexico was told to me by a Canadian friend. She was complaining to her cleaning lady about the noise coming from the street. Some construction I believe. She said the Mexican lady's response was: "Why do you listen?"

Great story. I think I would like Mexico. We go to a beach where there is no shopping no entertainment for kids no fast food no movies no hotels no high rises. One grocery store. Still the way it was when we were kids. My friends shake their heads when we go but if u love the beach and not the “entertainment” and traffic lights and outlet malls u want to go to our beach. Leaving it nameless because we don't want the world showing up there and modernizing it.

The ones in England? I heard u were there. Darn maybe I remember wrong. A speaker or maybe teaching at it! Like the classes at our Portrait Society of America.

You made me homesick for Mexico, my adopted homeland. I keep my Mexican passport valid at all times because I know someday I will go back to that beautifully imperfect place.

I often read the essays aloud as requested. But if you click the play button at the top of the essay, Substack will read any one of them to you.
