Bravo, Danny!!! This essay should be handed out in schools, as the messages work for any age and any creative pursuit. It also needs to be read by those who live and work with creatives; the essay perfectly illustrates how we artists drain our souls in order to just TRY to make something and those who don't need to have a bit more respect for the life we've chosen. Or rather, it has chosen us...You are the best, Danny!

Thank you friend....at 75 I needed to be reminded to remember these valuable lessons. ❤️. I am recovering from rotator cuff surgery....ouch...but this too shall pass. Imagine and live in peace.

Danny!

This essay is serendipitous. I am writing again. The sketching I've been doing has loosened up and toned my creative muscles, and has given the courage to write. This encouragement is just what the doctor ordered!

Embracing the imperfect, the mistakes, has been the hardest part for me in coming back to art. However, I know that it is imperative for me to do so if I'm going to successfully return, and truly enjoy my craft again.

Just what I needed to hear as I contemplate moving from my old life of writing books to my new (really, old-old) life of making comics. Thanks for your help in getting there, Danny. :)

I need to print this out and read it every week until it becomes part of my underlying thought. This a summation of so many of your inspirational and motivational. Thank you so much for another great essay.

My daddio would say “bum glue is what you need to succeed. Quit agonizing. Pitter patter fly ‘atter!” And more like that. Sometimes I feel it is inspiration but mostly perspiration. More pluck than luck. And you are so on the dot about comparing ourselves to others- huge waste of time. Happy Halloween my pal!

Wow. You outdid yourself today…. Not that I think you created all this in one sitting, or even in one day. There is so much good advice here that although I usually read your columns a couple times this one I’m going to print and read and read over and over again. Thank you
